This is a matter of life and death

Special message from Focus Canada president

Until early last year, we had a law in Canada that made it illegal to help someone commit suicide under any circumstances. However, on February 6, 2015, Canada’s highest court struck down this law with respect to physician-assisted dying. The court’s decision left our parliament and provincial legislatures to draft new legislation within the twelve months after the law had been declared unconstitutional. By a recent Supreme Court decision, that deadline has been extended by a brief four months.

With that deadline quickly approaching, we might soon be living in a country where it becomes legal to help another person die.

The implications of this law are staggering. This is an issue of life and death and truly a matter that needs much prayer. Please join with us in standing firm in our faith while shining the light of Jesus Christ in our nation.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

— Romans 12:2

Pray for those in political and legislative power that they would have wisdom and know God’s will as they create laws around assisted suicide and matters of life.

Pray for Christians in the medical profession who will be directly affected by these changing laws.

Pray for people and their families who are suffering chronic illness; that God would bring peace and hope for those in pain.

Pray that God would open our eyes to those around us who are suffering and alone; that we might extend God’s love to them.

Pray that Focus on the Family Canada would continue to be a source of encouragement for those facing trials and oppositions.
